Megan Nelson - Treasurer/Photographer

I've always been a little "out of the box." In fact, my dad told me the other day that I didn't fit the mold of the rest of the family, that I needed to express myself more creatively than the others. I guess that's just always been true. Even at a young age, I was perfectly content making up my own games to play and wrote my own stories to tell. I loved to draw and color, and I've always been on the more dramatic side of life.  Being creative has always been a passion of mine! I took 4 years of art in High School and continued to practice it after my graduation. I was in drama in church and school since I was 6 or 7, and I've even been published in the paper for my writing and my photography multiple times. After high school and obtaining my Associates Degree, I even went to photography school before opening my own photography company "Megan Leann Photography." It seems only natural that I would want a career as a photographer since cameras have been a constant presence in my life. For the first years of my life, I hated to be in front of them, or anywhere near them for that matter, but as I grew up, I became obsessed with being behind them. I have just always been all about expression! Any way that someone can express themselves is, actually, healing in a way, and helping someone express themselves through my art is so amazing!

I grew up in Western Michigan, just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Lake and with beauty all around me. Beauty in the water in summer, the trees in autumn, and even the snow in winter. I always knew what beauty was. Being a girl, as a stereotype, I did struggle with my "outward" beauty, most girls, and people for that matter, do. It took me a long time to actually accept that it really didn't matter what I looked like on the outside, because what I was on the inside was SO much better!

I joined Team True Beauty because there was a need to fulfill. I want to help spread the word to the young girls and boys of the world that what we look like on the outside is nothing compared to what we look like on the inside! Real beauty is who YOU are,  not what you look like! It took me a long time to learn that, and I hope that I can help others learn it a bit earlier, before they have to go through some of the struggles that I did, or before they go through any of the drastic measures that some people in this world do to fulfill an image that has been burned into their brain as "perfect." I am beyond blessed to be lending my voice to such a great cause!
