Amy Kuney
February 10, 2012
Independent. That's one word to describe Amy Kuney. You may know her as the "Gasoline Rainbows" girl or by her multiple songs that have been featured on the CW's One Tree Hill. Born on August 6, 1985, Amy began piano lessons at the age of four and wrote her first song at the age of 12. She started learning and playing guitar after her dad bought her a poster from Wal-Mart. In 2005, Kuney signed to Spin Move Records which is an independent record label and released her self-titled album EP. Kuney's songs appeared in episodes of Gilmore Girls in 2005 and 2006 and Passions in 2006. On August 12, 2008, Spin Move Records relseased Amy's debut full-length album titled "Bird's Eye View". She's opened and played alongside great artists such as Kate Voegele, The Veronica's, and Damien Rice. Her song "Gasoline Rainbows" was featured on a compilation album also titled Gasoline Rainbows which benefits the Gulf of Mexico after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. "Gasoline Rainbows' was also featured on So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Kuney is currently working on her next full length album titled "Onyx". We are honored to have Amy join Team True Beauty and have her words and music inspire us all.
TTB: Why did you decide to join Team True Beauty?
AMY: I've had friends who've struggled with eating disorders...etc. living in a world that tells women to maintain a certain weight/look a certain way; it's unforgiving. I think it's great what you're doing... people need to know that this isn't some 'foreign' issue. -it could be happening under your own roof.
TTB: What is one piece of advice you would give to people who are struggling to see THEIR true beauty?
AMY: As cliche as it sounds... you've got to fall back in love with yourself. Don't be vain, but find the things that you love about yourself... be more lenient, more forgiving, more kind. It'll change your way of thinking.
If a habit or disorder stems from a deeper issue (abuse, neglect...etc), therapy is helpful to get to the root of it all.
TTB: How do YOU describe Beauty? True Beauty? Is there a difference?
AMY: "beauty" is something we see in magazines, on television, on makeup counters... there are intangibly gorgeous men/women out there...no doubt. But "True Beauty" comes from the soul. True beauty comes from a loving heart, an intelligent mind, a beautiful voice, a witty sense of humor, a contagious laugh, a gentle spirit... the list goes on. I've heard so many guys say "yea... she was hot till she opened her mouth" and as douchey as that sounds, it's true; 'hot' only gets you so far.
TTB: What is one thing your fans/TTB Supporters would be surprised to know about you?
AMY: I'm in therapy. I go to a therapist every week because there are some issues in my life that I can't tackle alone.
TTB: If there is ONE thing that you can leave this spotlight with, concerning ANYTHING (funny or serious) what would it be?
AMY: Thank you for everything, your fandom, your support of my music :) It means the world to me.
And thank you Amy for your support of Team True Beauty!
