Melanie Notkin AKA Savvy Auntie
Melanie Notkin
August 17, 2011
Melanie Notkin may not be a name you are familiar with, but you probably know who she is. Melanie is the creator, and dare I say, mastermind, behind Savvy Auntie.
Savvy Auntie was created to help Aunties to have a resource to turn to. It's for woman who have sisters, sister-in-laws, or close friends that are pregnant to have a place to turn to for support, encouragement, ideas, and basically gives advice on how to to be a good friend and aunt from the moment you learn of the pregnancy until the niece/nephew turns into an adult.
She just recently wrote a book titled "Savvy Auntie" it is "the ultimate guide for cool aunts, great-aunts, godmothers, and all women who love kids." It's a Wall Street Journal National Best Seller and it is FULL of information that any aunt or woman that loves children can benefit from. It's information that even the woman that thinks she knows it all can benefit from. I, personally, have worked with kids, either babysitting, in a day care setting, or as a personal nanny, siince I was 13, and I have found the book extremely enjoyable and helpful to me and my relationship with my nephew!
Melanie is also a firm advocate for the aunt's without children. She says that just because a woman doesn't have children, doesn't mean they aren't happy and fulfilled just loving the ones that they do have in their lives!
The Savvy Auntie not only has a guidebook for aunties, but also offers a webpage full of advice, gift ideas on how to spoil the special children in your life, and lots of other amazing things, as well as a forum that you can talk to a community of other Savvy Aunties!
It's a complete honor to have Melanie on board with us here at Team True Beauty! She is a true inspiration to anyone who has the chance to talk to her and I know I was definitely touched by her answers to our questions. She is so sweet and I am thrilled to have her on board here with Team True Beauty!
TTB: Why did you decide to join Team True Beauty?
Melanie: Beauty is inside of you... and you may not always see it. I found the beauty in aunthood and it's made me a better person.
TTB: What is one piece of advice you would give to people who are struggling to see THEIR true beauty?
Melanie: Listen to your heart, your mind, your body, your soul. You're the only one who can hear them. They know the truth - that you are beautiful.
TTB: How do YOU descrive Beauty? True Beauty? Is there a difference?
Melanie: Happiness. The difference is similar to that of a fake smile and a smile of joy. You can see it from the inside out.
TTB: What is one thing that your fans/followers/TTB supporters would be surprised to find out about you?
Melanie: I feel more beautiful at 42 than I did at 22.
TTB: If there is ONE thing that you can leave this spotlight with, concerning ANYTHING! What would it be?
Melanie: Live in the positive. Never speak of yourself in the negative, i.e: I'm not pretty, I'm not skinny, I'm not attractive. For me, I changed my life's journey when instead of referring to myself as childless after dreaming of having children of my own, I began to refer to myself as childfull - I choose to love the children in my life - and that love is a gift - both ways.
Wonderful advice from a wonderful lady! Thanks so much for your insight, Melanie!
