Nicole Lyn
June 9, 2011
Nicole Lyn was born on February 24 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
She fell in love with the artistic side of life at the age of three, when she started to take dance classes. This soon led to commercials and then a regular role on some Canadian shows.
Nicole excelled at her schooling which was at a ballet school and at a school for the arts. She knew that art would be a part of her life by the age of fourteen.
She did take a break from dancing and acting in order to attend high school (in Jamaica) and when she finished, she returned to Canada, to that life that she was sure she would live, and was cast as the lead, Emily Roberts, on Fox'sStudent Bodies.
In 2000, Nicole moved to LA. It is there she met her husband, (fellow Team True Beauty Supporter; and our FIRST Celebrity Spotlight) Dulé Hill and they married in 2004.
Nicole has been in many shows, though fans may probably recognize her as the girl that Gus (Dulé Hill) used the infamous "You heard about Pluto? That's messed up, right?" line on in the episode "From Earth to Starbucks" on USA Network's Psych.
Nicole Lyn is quite possibly most famous as her DJ alter ego: Ms. Nix. As it states on her Facebook page: she "sees deejaying as storytelling." Which is something she's had plenty of experience in, she enjoys to take her audience "on a journey."
She is self described as "Full time Dreamer and a Part time Genius" and I'd go on to describe her as a full time amazing person! She is one of the sweetest people! We asked her about Team True Beauty on Twitter, and she jumped at the chance, so, of course, we asked her to be a spotlight. She responded right away, with some VERY amazing words for us to take to heart.
I know the questions haven't changed, but the answers we get back every week are just so important and perfect for us to hear! Each of these people took time out to share their thoughts with us, and we can't thank them enough! And now here are Nicole's encouraging answers for us!
TTB: Why did you decide to join Team True Beauty?
Ms Nix: I believe in encouraging everyone to find the source of their beauty & joy, and TTB does just that.
TTB: What is one piece of advice you would give to people who are struggling to see THEIR true beauty?
Ms Nix: Find something - anything - that makes you feel happy, confident, or hopeful. Try to incorporate it into your daily life in some way. Take your attention off yourself & all the things you find "wrong." When you're working toward a goal or giving back the other things become a LOT less important.
TTB: How do YOU describe Beauty? True Beauty? Is there a difference?
Ms Nix: Beauty is like art, much of it is in the eye of the beholder. What I see doesn't make what you see any more or any less beautiful we just have different perspectives & hearts to see with. I came across a quote the other day about art and I think it also applies to beauty. "Art includes everything that stimulates the desire to live." -Remy de Gourmont
TTB: What is one thing that your fans/followers/TTB supporters would be surprised to find out about you?
Ms Nix: Unlike most women, I do NOT enjoy the spa. It's odd, but I can't relax there!
TTB: If there is ONE thing that you can leave this spotlight with, concerning ANYTHING (funny or serious) what would it be?
Ms. Nix: No one has ever looked in the mirror or at their life and thought "Yup. Perfect." There's a reason for that...perfection isn't the point.
Thank you! I hope we all can remember that perfection really isn't the point and that we need to embrace who we are...imperfections and all!
