Jena Sims may not be a name you recognize quickly (though chances are you've
seen her before) but you should definitely become familiar with it because this
girl is making her way to the top!
Jena was born on December 30 in Winder, GA. While she's probably most famous
for her guesting roles on The Vampire Diaries (Cherie) or One Tree
Hill (Tracy) this is not her only claim to fame! She's also a model and was
voted Miss Georgia Teen USA in 2007! This only scratches the surface of who Jena
really is.
She has a BIG heart and cares deeply for others. This is proven in the way
she interacts with her fans, friends, and random people that message her on
twitter. She is also a huge advocate for cancer research and loves reaching out
to those who are suffering with it. She is also very charitable with her time as
she has volunteered at many different places for many different causes!
One of the things that Jena does that really made an impact on me was "Pagent
of Hope" (which she explains a little later in this spotlight). It just really
shows Jena's true beauty perfectly! It's such a great story and a great way to
help spread the message of true beauty to children. The goal is to make children
feel like winners and the tag line is "Touching each child, a tiara at a time"
it's a wonderful cause that she started and the message it brings to children
should also be taken to heart by adults as well!
Jena is one of the sweetest ladies around, and though she was hesitant to be
a celebrity spotlight becasue she's "hardly a celebrity" she had a lot of great
things to say about what this campaign means to her! I hope her answers mean
just as much to you as they did to me when I read them!
TTB: Why did you decide to join Team True Beauty?
Jena: Self confidence is very important in today's society. Feeling beautiful
is a part of that. It is imperative for people to understand that beauty is what
is on the inside, not the outside. You have to first have inner-beauty to exude
outer beauty. It has always been my belief, even through my non-profit
organization that I run, that true beauty is not something you can see. Not
your weight, height, hair color or physical features. Team True Beauty seems to
stand behind that idea and I support it!
TTB: What is one piece of advice you would give to people who are struggling
to see THEIR true beauty?
Jena: There's always someone, somewhere in the world that has it worse than
they do. I have traveled to one of the largest slums in Africa and have seen it
first hand. So trust me, if you think you're having a bad day or aren't feeling
"hot" think about kids who are starving or don't have access to clean water- or
even hand soap for that matter.
For the people struggling to see their own, I would advise them to take
something they are passionate about and turn it in to a charity project to make
a difference in the world. For example, I took pageants and kids diagnosed with
cancer and turned it in to an international cause. I hold pageants for kids who
are sick or disabled where every child leaves as a winner. It is called the
"Pageant of Hope". We focus on self esteem and self confidence. We dress them
up, teach them the pageant walk, fix their hair and make-up, and carry out the
entire pageant process. At the end of the day, we crown every child- boy or
girl- a title such as "Best Dressed" or "Most Confident". It has been proven
that raising overall well being and self esteem can boost these children in to remission
faster. These children are more beautiful and heroic than any person I have ever
met.
TTB: How do YOU describe Beauty? True Beauty? Is there a difference?
Jena: I definitely think there is a difference. My first thought when I read
this was that Beauty is Natalie Portman. You see her on tv and film and your
first thought is, WOW, she is so beautiful, thin, and talented. It is almost
like looking at a piece of art in a museum.
True beauty is Petra Nemcova. We see her and see what she is doing for the
Tsunami victims and her impact on the world and desire to make a difference.
That's when you go, WOW, she is TRULY Beautiful.
TTB: What is one thing that your fans/followers/TTB supporters would be
surprised to find out about you?
Jena: I went shark cage diving with great whites in the Indian Ocean! I was
one of the only ones to not get sea sick on the boat!
TTB: If there is ONE thing that you can leave this spotlight with, concerning
ANYTHING (funny or serious) what would it be?
Jena: The grass may be greener on the other side, but their water bill is
higher.
Thank you Jena, I hope we all remember in the end, that just because it seems
better over there, doesn't mean that you get to see the whole story!
